New Features Update | Khan Academy Welcomes District Partners to School Year 2024

In this second of three blog posts for our Khan Academy District Partners, the team will be sharing new feature updates released in time for the fall. In this second post you’ll learn about improved reporting for administrators, rostering updates, and an overview of new offerings including some truly ground-breaking AI tools for the ELA classroom.

Improved Reporting

This fall’s refresh for admin is focused on reporting: no more hunting for the information you need. A refreshed administrator dashboard allows leaders to be laser focused on the metrics that indicate students are learning.

Best of all, you’ll always know where students currently are down to each individual classroom.

And, with Khanmigo reporting, administrators know which, and how many of your eligible students and teachers with Khanmigo are using AI.

Even Better Rostering

As you know, Khan Academy accounts who are part of a partner district and are enrolled in the Khan Academy Districts program have access to automated rostering via Clever and Classlink. To make it as easy as possible for our Partners to add administrators, we’re happy to share that moving forward, any administrator can be rostered to the Partnership without needing to add them to Clever or Class Link. Of course, you can always learn more about rostering as a Khan Academy Districts Partner on our Help Center.

New Professional Learning on AI

A District Partnership is the only way to give students access to 1:1 Khanmigo AI tutoring, and it unlocks professional learning and admin support on AI for teachers. We learned in our pilot year of Khanmigo that professional learning and implementation modeling is critical to successful AI rollouts. You can see our 2024-2025 Professional Learning Menu here and get excited about directing innovation.

And, whether your teachers are getting live professional learning through Khan Academy or not, we invite your staff to embark on a comprehensive journey to master the use of artificial intelligence in educational settings with Khanmigo. Our new, free, asynchronous professional learning course covers the essentials of AI, ethical considerations, and practical applications.

Writing Coach for Teachers and Students

Unlike other AI writing tools, Writing Coach isn’t an evaluative tool or a productivity tool whose purpose is to produce better writing. It’s an AI-enabled instructional tool whose purpose is to produce better writers. You can read about it in more detail our blog.

We believe Khanmigo Writing Coach will serve as an invaluable tool for teachers, enabling them to focus their attention on offering personalized guidance that helps students develop into more confident and skilled writers. The National Commission on Writing recommends that students should be writing for about 60 minutes each day. Given the strain that writing instruction puts on teachers, it’s no wonder that fewer than 10% of students meet this expectation. Beyond the immediate support for students which we covered earlier on this blog post, Writing Coach for teachers will soon offer:

  • Time savings: Khanmigo can save hundreds of hours by supporting students throughout the entire writing process, including during the feedback phase and revisions. It also surfaces valuable insights that will allow teachers to avoid having to painstakingly review more than 100 individual student draft histories.
  • Detailed reporting: The tool provides summaries of class- and student-level feedback, detailed reports on the amount of time spent at each stage of writing, and chat exchanges with Khanmigo. Teachers can also review any feedback provided by Khanmigo throughout the writing process.
  • Academic integrity monitoring: The tool alerts teachers to potential instances of plagiarism. For instance, if a student pastes text from outside their outline into their draft, the teacher is alerted and can review the history of what happened.

That’s all for now- in case you missed it, be sure to read our first blog post of this back-to-school series about new content released for the fall,  and stay tuned for our final post on new resources developed to guide you through your Khan Academy District Partnership this school year.
