We are deeply committed to continually improving educators’ ability to get the most out of Khan Academy. Over the last few years, we’ve heard clear, consistent feedback from our district partners about how we can best support learning in their districts.
Today, we are thrilled to announce the release of new features that are designed to give you more insight into your district’s mastery progress and help teachers support students in reaching their learning goals.
Mastery learning is top of mind this fall—84% of teachers believe mastery learning can help address pandemic-related learning gaps. Our new features will make it easier for teachers and districts to tackle this difficult challenge by tracking, measuring, and boosting mastery learning for their students.
Track mastery with new progress reports
Two new progress reports are now available for leaders and teachers who want more information about how their district is performing. Both reports will give you a better understanding of student performance and needs. Read on to learn more about what each report has to offer.
District Skills Progress Report
How well do your students understand a recently taught skill? Do they have the prerequisite math skills needed to succeed on grade-level content? Have they attained proficiency in the key grade-level skills they need to succeed on your state test? All of these questions and more can be answered using the District Skills Progress report. It provides data about the skills students have mastered, as well as the skills they still need help with to achieve grade-level success. This report allows you to
- view students’ skill-level performance and progress toward mastery at the school or district level
- break down data using flexible filters to change time frames, schools, grades, teachers, and courses
- identify areas of strength and areas needing more support, so you can make effective instructional decisions
- click on a skill to see which students are at each mastery level in order to make decisions about how best to support them (New in August!)
Individual Student Skills Report
The Individual Student Skills Report shows teachers each student’s skill-mastery levels for every skill in a selected instructional area or RIT band (for MAP Accelerator teachers). This report allows teachers to
- easily track how a student is progressing towards mastery with a skill-by-skill assessment of their work
- gain insights into a student’s strengths and weaknesses in order to make choices about how best to support that student’s growth
- conveniently share and discuss a student’s performance with the student or their parents
Support collaborative learning with Co-Teaching
Co-Teaching supports teacher collaboration in the classroom and when using Khan Academy. Co-Teaching allows more than one teacher to have the same access rights to a Khan Academy class, so they can assign and view reports for the same students in the same class instance. Co-Teaching was designed to support the ways in which teachers collaborate to teach the same class.
Boost engagement year-round with LearnStorm
A long-standing tradition at Khan Academy has been the back-to-school LearnStorm competition. During this annual challenge, students in a class work together to level up on Khan Academy and compete nationally against other students to see who can learn the most. This year, Khan Academy’s popular engagement tool will be available year-round to encourage deeper learning by rewarding mastery level-ups to “familiar” or higher. With LearnStorm, teachers can help students build a growth mindset by allowing them to track their progress and celebrate mastery all year long!
Our new features give you everything you need, from insightful reports, to classroom support, and a compelling engagement tool, to empower your district to tackle unfinished learning. This fall, educators will need to develop strong strategies to address pandemic-related learning gaps, and Khan Academy is here to help.
