To get a sense for our work, consider this recent segment of CBS’s 60 Minutes, which featured footage from our offices and of classrooms in School City of Hobart, an Indiana partner district of around 4,000 students using Khan Academy for Math, Science, ELA and SAT Prep.
What is a Khan Academy District Partnership?
We’re here to explain how our paid District partnership program differs from the free version of Khan Academy with features and services specifically designed for school districts to support and measure teacher usage and student progress.
- A district partnership includes the use of Khanmigo, our AI-powered 24/7 Socratic tutor for students and teaching assistant for teachers.
- Automated rostering relieves the burden from teachers of having to manually create classes and add students. Either Clever or ClassLink are required to roster students.
- Implementation support from a Khan Academy District Success Manager.
- Admin reporting dashboard to monitor student progress and engagement.

About Khanmigo
Khanmigo is an innovative AI tool designed to act as a teaching assistant for educators and a study buddy for students. This resource provides personalized, real-time learning support and helps streamline classroom activities.
Key Benefits of Khanmigo:
- For Students: Enhances critical thinking and problem-solving with guided prompts, supports homework and essay writing, and provides a customized learning experience across various subjects, in multiple languages.
- For Educators: Simplifies workflow, identifies student struggles, synthesizes data, assists with lesson planning, and ensures student safety with automated alerts for inappropriate interactions.
Privacy, Security, and the NYS DPA (Ed Law 2D compliant)
Khan Academy is committed to protecting student data. Importantly, content submitted by teachers and students is not used to train the AI’s underlying models, and moderation technology is used to flag interactions that may be inappropriate or unsafe. Khan Academy is proud of it’s clean SOC audits, FERPA and COPPA compliance. Additionally, we have a new NYS DPA (Ed Law 2D compliant) that K-12 Districts can sign up through the TEC Consortium.
What is the TEC Consortium?
- The TEC Consortium stands for the The Education Cooperative Student Data Privacy Alliance
- The TEC Consortium is the approver of data protection agreements (DPAs) for K12 schools in the TEC Consortium
- New York is a member of the TEC Consortium K12 schools in NY go to the TEC Consortium to enter into DPAs
How do we sign onto the Khan Academy DPA?
- Our Khan Academy District customers can go to the SDPC site for all TEC Consortium DPA requests because, like CITE, they can directly benefit from the negotiated TEC Consortium DPA by signing Exhibit “E” located in the SDPC site
- The District representative needs an SDPC account and login to see the Khan Academy for Districts DPA on the Resource Registry
- Our Khan Academy DPA is available through the “SDPC Auto Exhibit E Creator”
We are excited to see the positive impact Khanmigo will bring to classrooms across New York! Let’s harness the power of AI to enhance education and support our teachers and students!
