Help your child find a free Texas course, use a four week plan to get a jump start, and follow their progress.

When your child needs extra practice, the first question is often: Where should we start?
Khan Academy has a growing library of free courses built around the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS. These are the state standards that guide what students learn in Texas schools.
Families can also download free four week study plans for 19 Texas math and science courses. Each plan covers the first part of the course through short weekday sessions. It gives students a clear place to begin without expecting them to complete the entire course in four weeks.
With support from the ExxonMobil Foundation, these resources are free for Texas students and families.
1. Find a course that matches what your child is learning
Whether your child wants to revisit a difficult skill, review a current unit, or prepare for what comes next, they can begin with a Texas course built around the state’s learning standards.
Khan Academy’s Texas library includes courses across math, science, financial literacy, and more. New courses for the 2026 to 2027 school year include:
- Statistics
- Financial Mathematics
- Personal Financial Literacy
- 6th Grade Science
- 7th Grade Science
- Integrated Physics and Chemistry
These courses join Khan Academy’s growing collection of Texas resources for students across elementary, middle, and high school.
Your child does not have to begin with the first lesson or complete the whole course. They can open the unit they are studying in school, watch one video, read an article, or complete a practice set connected to that topic.
Explore the Texas course library2. Use a four week study plan as a jump start
A full course can feel like a lot, especially when a student is already unsure where to begin.
Khan Academy’s free Texas study plans turn that first step into a simple four week routine. The plans are available for 19 math and science courses:
Math: 3rd Grade Math, 4th Grade Math, 5th Grade Math, 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Financial Mathematics, and Statistics
Science: 6th Grade Science, 7th Grade Science, 8th Grade Science, High School Biology, High School Chemistry, High School Physics, and Integrated Physics and Chemistry
Each plan guides your child through the first part of the course with short weekday sessions that may include videos, practice, quizzes, and review.
A study plan can help your child:
- Choose a specific place to begin
- Focus on a manageable set of skills
- Build a regular practice routine
- Review progress before moving forward
- Gain confidence through steady work
The plan is not meant to cover or master every unit in four weeks. Think of it as a jump start that helps your child begin the course, build momentum, and know what to work on next.
Your child can use the plan alongside school instruction, during homework time, or whenever they want extra review. Even one short session can turn “I don’t know where to start” into a clear next step.
Find a Texas Study Plan3. Follow their progress with the Parent Dashboard
You do not have to remember every formula or reteach every lesson to support your child.
The Khan Academy Parent Dashboard gives you one place to follow their learning. You can:
- See the courses they are using
- Check their recent activity and progress
- Assign practice connected to what they are studying
- Celebrate the time and effort they are putting in
A quick check once or twice a week can also make learning conversations more useful. Instead of only asking whether they finished their work, try asking:
- What are you working on right now?
- What is starting to make more sense?
- What would you like to practice next?
The dashboard can help you stay involved without making learning feel like one more source of pressure.
