What’s new for the 2026–27 school year

As we head into the 2026–27 school year, Khan Academy Districts is continuing to evolve to better support districts, educators, and students at scale. Khan Academy has been reimagined to boldly shape the future of education with AI-enhanced mastery learning. Khanmigo serves as every student’s learning coach and every teacher’s trusted assistant. These supports seamlessly connect district priorities to classroom success.

What you’re renewing

When you renew for 2026–27, you are renewing your Khan Academy Districts Enterprise subscription. This renewal ensures continued access to district-level features and tools that support implementation, usage tracking, and instructional planning across your schools.

Your renewal contract reflects:

  • Your district’s license count
  • The 2026–27 subscription term
  • Any applicable updates for the upcoming school year

How to renew your contract

Renewing your Khan Academy Districts partnership is straightforward:

  1. Review your renewal contract, which has been sent to your district.
  2. Review the updates outlined on this page.
  3. If you are aligned, sign and return the contract.
  4. If you have questions, reply directly to the renewal email.
  5. If you do not plan to renew, please let us know so we can stop renewal outreach.

All renewal communications are managed through our centralized inbox to ensure timely responses and consistent support.

Renewal timeline & key dates

For most partners, renewals occur on a rolling basis to align with district contract cycles and will be open from April 1st through July 17th, 2026. Arizona districts were able to begin renewing on February 23rd. 

Please note: Districts that do not complete renewal by July 17th may experience a disruption in access, including rostering and related systems.

Khan Academy Kids: eligibility & next steps

Some districts may be eligible to receive Khan Academy Kids for Schools as part of their 2026–27 planning.

Khan Academy Kids for Schools is designed to support PreK- 2nd-grade learners through engaging, developmentally appropriate content.

Important notes:

  • Khan Academy Kids is covered under a separate contract.
  • Eligibility varies by district.
  • Expressing interest does not delay or replace your Khan Academy Districts Enterprise renewal.

Khan Academy Interim Assessments: early access

Select districts may be eligible to participate in new Khan Academy Interim Assessments during the 2026–27 school year.

What happens if we don’t renew?
If a district chooses not to renew, access to Khan Academy Districts features, including rostering and district-level tools, will be disconnected after July 17, 2026.

Can we change our license count?
Districts interested in adjusting their license count should reply to their renewal email so we can review options together.

Who should we contact with questions?
Please reply directly to the email you received from renewals@khanacademy.org. Our team monitors this inbox and will route questions to the appropriate partner.

Does renewal affect current access?
Current access remains in place through the end of your existing contract term.

What if we’re interested in add-on products?
If your district is eligible for additional products or pilots, replying to your renewal email is the best way to start that conversation.

Will my data transfer?
Yes. Student progress and coursework from the classic Khan Academy will seamlessly transfer to the new platform. Rostering and administrative reporting will not be affected. 

How do gems work?
Students can earn gems by completing assigned skills, Khanmigo activities, and missions. Each classroom will automatically receive monthly “Gem Challenges” to celebrate progress and inspire motivation. 

What is the rollout timeline?
A select group of current and new district partners will transition to the reimagined Khan Academy experience. This begins now and lasts through the second semester of 2026. The platform will officially launch for all users in July 2026. 

How will this impact student outcomes?
Khan Academy builds on more than a decade of research-backed impact showing that consistent use of Khan Academy leads to measurable learning gains. The new platform deepens that impact with real-time insights, motivational tools, and data-driven differentiation, helping teachers target instruction more effectively and ensuring students achieve even greater growth. 

Will teachers need to learn a new system?
Not really. While the look and feel are new, the platform builds on everything teachers already know and love about Khan Academy. Plus, our professional learning team will provide step-by-step training and ongoing support to ensure a smooth transition. 

How will you support staff training?
Our Professional Learning team will collaborate directly with districts to deliver high-quality training and support for the new experience. By Back to School 2026-27, educators will also have access to on-demand, asynchronous courses for flexible learning anytime, anywhere.
