NHN Next Kicks off Translation Efforts in Korea

On November 1st, Korea’s 200 volunteer translators gathered to celebrate the Kick-off of the massive translation efforts to localize Khan Academy. The event was hosted by NHN Next Foundation, a non-profit education organization which joined Khan Academy’s vision as the fifth international partner.

The event started off with the famous ‘You Can Learn Anything’ campaign video, followed by a welcome message from the Communications lead, Hyo-Jung Kim from NHN Next Foundation. The local government officials from Seongnam area also visited to encourage the translators.

Part 2 of the event began with inspirational greeting messages from Khan Academy, the French team and the Portuguese team (Lemann Foundation).

Then subtitle translation expert Hye-Sook Ham led a brief workshop giving examples and tips on what makes a good subtitle.

At the end of the day, the translators had a chance to meet their group members face-to-face and say hello to the reviewers. The volunteers left with bag full of goodies (pencils, notepads and a fleece jacket to stay warm while translating) and good company to embark on this journey together.
