The SAT Reading and Writing Challenge unit gives students free, focused practice with some of the most difficult questions in Khan Academy’s SAT course.
This mastery-enabled unit includes six exercises for learners who have completed the Advanced exercises and are ready to push their reading, grammar, and reasoning skills further before test day.
What’s in the SAT Reading and Writing Challenge unit?
The Challenge unit includes advanced practice across the major SAT Reading and Writing skill areas:
- Information and ideas
- Craft and structure
- Expression of ideas
- Standard English conventions
Students will work with complex texts, closely matched answer choices, advanced grammar concepts, and evidence-based questions that require careful reading and reasoning.
This is more than extra practice. It is an opportunity to become familiar with the thinking required by the exam’s toughest questions before test day.
A clear next step for students
The Challenge unit is designed for students who have worked through the Foundations, Medium, and Advanced levels and feel ready for a greater challenge.
Students can complete the exercises at their own pace, track their mastery, and review detailed explanations when they miss a question. Taking time to understand why an answer is correct can be just as valuable as answering it correctly in the first place.
Families can also use the unit as a free, focused next step for students who are approaching their test date or working toward their strongest possible performance.
Advanced SAT practice teachers can assign
For educators, the Challenge unit offers a ready-to-use extension for students who have moved beyond the core material in the course.
Teachers can use it to do the following:
- Give advanced students a meaningful next step to prepare for test day.
- Assign targeted practice based on specific skill needs.
- Differentiate SAT preparation without creating new materials.
- Turn difficult questions into class discussions about reasoning and evidence.
Because all six exercises are part of one mastery-enabled unit, students and teachers can follow progress in one place.
Take on the next challenge!
Students who have mastered the advanced material now have a new place to practice and improve their skills. The SAT Reading and Writing Challenge unit is free and available now on Khan Academy.
